Shutter Installation

Installation is one of the most important parts of your shutter project. A beautiful shutter will never look correct if installed incorrectly. As an OEM manufacturer, we no longer install our shutters, but we are happy to interface with your installer or contractor on the best methods for installation. Below are some helpful diagrams that show standard installation procedures.

Colonial shutters use either L hinges or our own speciality hinges. Bahama shutter installation utilizes either a continuous hinge or our offset butt hinge. Spandrel type shutters can be installed using a number of different methods, while fixed mount shutters can come factory pre-drilled, or mounted with a fixed mount bracket set.

Bahama Shutter Installation

Bahama, (or Bermuda) shutters are designed to tilt out from the wall when open, and fasten securely to the wall for hazardous weather conditions. Bahama shutters are meant to be permanently mounted to the wall, and provide shade and privacy all at all times.

Sea Shutters offers two different hinge styles, a single continuous hinge or our custom hinges. Continuous hinges come custom color matched to your shutters and a very simple install. Our custom hinges are a more minimalist and utilitarian option.

Colonial Shutter Installation

Colonial Shutter Installation

Colonial shutter installation utilizes at least 2 hinges and shutter holdbacks per panel. L type hinges can be installed either surface or flush mounted, which indicates where the shutter sits in the opening when the panel is closed. Surface mount is the standard, and is much easier to install than the flush mount style. Flush mount is usually only utilized when the wall has a very deep inset for the windows, and is not common in the United States.

L type hinges will be installed either standard style, where the hinge is on the back of the shutter when open, or reversed style , where the hinge is on the front of the shutter when open. Which to choose is entirely up to you, and depends on whether you want to see the L hinge when the shutter is open, or not. Most of customers prefer a reversed style, which showcases Lynn Cove’s excellent L hinges.
